چکیده

Conn (1942) observed that Alcaligenes faecalis required organic nitrogen, but as observed by Porter (1946) no report was found of a study of nitrogen compounds suitable for continued growth of A. faecalis. It was reported, however, that this organism grew in a medium containing NH4 lactate as a source of nitrogen and carbon (Braun and Cahn-Bronner, 1921), and used NH4NO3, asparagine, cysteine, and Na pyruvate (Berthelot and Amoureux, 1938). Accordingly, a study of utilization of 39 common organic and 3 inorganic compounds is reported.

Removal of High-Strength of Ammonium and Phenol from Coking Wastewater by Alcaligenes Faecalis No.4

Alcaligenes faecalis No.4, which is capable of heterotrophic nitrification and aerobic denitrification was used to treat coking wastewater (CW) to remove high-strength of ammonium and phenol. First, the phenol-degrading ability of No.4 was verified and a synthetic medium containing lactate and phenol as carbon sources was subsequently applied to the No.4 culture. Both carbon materials were enti...

The Metabolism of Xanthine-8-carboxylic Acid by Alcaligenes Faecalis.

Alcaligenes jaecalis is capable of growing in response to simple pteridines as the sole source of nitrogen (1). Simple pteridines appear to be metabolized in this organism through the common intermediate, tetraoxypteridine (1, 2)) and cell-free extracts of the organism catalyze the conversion of tetraoxypteridine to xanthine-8-carboxylic acid (1). In these conversions the nitrogen atoms of the ...

Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery Using Biosurfactant Produced by Alcaligenes faecalis

A bacterial strain (designated as Alcaligenes sp. MS-103) isolated from oil sample of the Aghajari oilfield in the south of Iran, was able to produce an effective extracellular lipopolysaccharide biosurfactant (1.2±0.05 g/l) on molasses as a sole carbon source. The highest surface tension reduction to level 20 mN/m was achieved by biosurfactant produced by cells grown on molasses under optimum ...

Preliminary observations on the application of the multiple inocula (replicator) method for carbon substrate utilization studies of Alcaligenes faecalis.

The use of the replicator technique in evaluating carbon source utilization by 55 cultures of Alcaligenes faecalis was examined. Six of the 20 substrates tested were utilized by the bacterial cultures. In this study, the reproducibility of the technique was 100%.

The sulfonated osmolyte N-methyltaurine is dissimilated by Alcaligenes faecalis and by Paracoccus versutus with release of methylamine.

Selective enrichments yielded bacterial cultures able to utilize the osmolyte N-methyltaurine as sole source of carbon and energy or as sole source of fixed nitrogen for aerobic growth. Strain MT1, which degraded N-methyltaurine as a sole source of carbon concomitantly with growth, was identified as a strain of Alcaligenes faecalis. Stoichiometric amounts of methylamine, whose identity was conf...
